Glass and moving image

REFRAME was a six month research and development project from March - September 2007, funded by ACE, in which I developed work in web-design, glass, and moving image.

With the help of a mentor, and excellent tuition in various glass techniques - ranging from lampwork and blowing to kiln-casting and inclusions, the project culminated in a piece of work, SOURCE, shown as an installation at the art|works exhibition in Radstock, September 2007.

The web-design continues, and this site is a work in progress - very much a live sketchbook for ideas and documentation.

Work with glass is also developing, with further tuition at the Liquid Glass Centre in March 2008, thanks to a bursary from the Contemporary Glass Society jointly with Liquid Glass. This time I'm making pieces specifically for use with interactive media, which will hopefully be shown publicly in June 2008.

Thanks to the following organisations and artists I have worked with during this project:

    • Public Art Consultant Diana Hatton, who works freelance for organisations including Public Art South West and Arts Council England.
    • The Liquid Glass Centre, dedicated to promoting the craft of glassmaking and where traditional skills are taught alongside contemporary techniques. Established in 2000, it has built a reputation as England’s premier glass school and is well known for its year round program of excellent courses taught by experienced and enthusiastic tutors. www.liquidglasscentre.co.uk
    • The Interactive Media Centre (IMC) is part of the Wiltshire College Centre of Vocational Excellence in Digital and Broadcast Media. IMC offers facilities, provides training, supports professional development and brokers industry/education production partnerships. All courses are developed and taught by professionals in their field. IMC has a track record of supporting artists, and of partnership and public art. www.imc24.co.uk
    • Paul Goodenough, Aerian Studios, tutor in content-rich web design.
